The Answer to the Age-Old Dilemma: Eat or Drink Our Dessert Calories

Have you ever had the moment of inner turmoil as you debate with yourself, “Wine or dessert? Wine or dessert?” Sometimes, (ok, most times) we choose to drink our calories, but sometimes we really need that chocolate covered double chocolate chunk chocolate cake. We get it.

We like the way our little friend at Old El Paso thinks and we’re asking the same question, “Porque no los dos?”

You read that right - why don’t we have both wine and dessert. Whether it’s a chocolate lovers dream come true like this red wine truffle or a weight-watchers delight like these frozen grapes marinated in wine, these are some of our favorite wine desserts that are easy to make and easy to enjoy - because sometimes we deserve to have our cake and eat it too.

Gummy Bears

Mix together these four ingredients in five minutes, wait about an hour for the adorable gummies to chill and then voila - adult-approved gummy bears. This recipe makes turning our favorite childhood bears into adult joys so simple, it even provides a link for the $10 gummy bear molds. The best part? Your inner 90s kid will celebrate as you realize you really can have that way -  red, white or even rosé gummies!

Slushie

People Magazine calls this a “frosé,” but we call them like we see them - a wine slushie. Blend your favorite rosé (or sweet wine), watermelon (or favorite fruit), and ¼ cup of sugar together and enjoy this undeniably delicious adult slushie. And since fruit gets mixed in, we’ll call it kind-of-sort-of healthy.

Ice Cream

This recipe requires a little more work but we promise it’s worth it. Mix together (using a blender) heavy cream and vanilla extract, add in sweetened condensed milk and then gently stir in your favorite wine, chocolate, and strawberries. Could you imagine a better list of ingredients? Freeze overnight and enjoy 1 or 2 scoops the next day- or the whole bucket, we’re not judging.

Milkshake

We saved the easiest for last: two ingredients and no mess. You simply can’t go wrong with this utterly delicious milkshake. Add your favorite vanilla ice cream and dessert wine to a blender and blend for 30 seconds. Top it with whipped cream and a cherry - or don’t - and sip away on your new guilty pleasure.

Do you have other favorite desserts that solve the age-old dilemma:  wine or dessert? We’d love to give them a shot- let us know!
